This version of the course is delivered on two days per week over wo consecutive weeks, normally Monday and Tuesday of each week.

The IOSH Managing Safely course is widely regarded as the best health and safety training course for managers at Level 2. IOSH certification for this course is recognised around the world and it demonstrates that the recipient has a good grounding in health and safety and how that applies in a management perspective.

The IOSH Managing Safely course delivers understanding of the risk assessment process and how we decide which controls we need. It also helps managers to understand how to investigate accidents, to measure performance and what your environmental responsibilities are.

The course applies to every manager, at every level in every sector. In short, all managers should hold this outstanding qualification.

Outline

Module 1 Introducing Managing Safely In this module we discuss why it is important to manage health and safety at work.

Module 2 Risk assessment We build up the risk assessment process and explain  the terminology used. There are many ways to conduct a risk assessment and this course concentrates on the most commonly used, the 5×5 matrix approach. Once we have identified the things that we need to do something about we need to make a decision about what that “something” will be.

Module 3 Risk control covers how we identify the appropriate controls and how we can avoid implementing unreasonable or disproportionally expensive controls that prevent us from doing our job.

Module 4 Responsibilities In this module we dispel a few myths about criminal and civil law. We also explain how the law works, what it demands of us. The module also covers health and safety management systems and why we must have one in place at work.

Module 5 Common hazards We discuss the problems caused by these hazards, what harm they can cause, what we can do to prevent them from occurring and what to do when things go wrong.

Module 6 Accident Investigation We talk about what to do about accidents, some of the provisions we should have in place before the accident and how we can prevent accidents from being repeated.

Module 7 Measuring health and safety performance We discover what we need to measure and what we hope to learn. We even cover auditing of health and safety/management systems.
