AELP Workshop: Developing an Effective Model of Blended Learning for Work-Based Learning, including Apprenticeship Provision
Details
‘I am enabled and empowered to use technology and online resources to support my learning’?
Overview
In this workshop you will learn about different blended models and how to effectively plan and deliver a blended model of delivery, which will include apprenticeships. We look at a range of free tools for creating online content, the options for online learning
environments and the development requirements of staff.
The Skills Funding Agency is “encouraging providers to establish a strategy to determine where the adoption of a greater ‘blend’ of delivery and assessment types adds most value to a learning programme”. They say that “ideally all courses should have some wholly-online
elements, with some programmes having a more substantial proportion, depending on the range and type of provision”. There is also an expectation by government that there will be an increased use of digital technologies in the delivery and assessment of apprenticeships.
From September 2014 the statement ‘I am enabled and empowered to use technology and online resources to support my learning’ will be added to Ofsted’s Learner View Survey and Ofsted inspectors are being provided with clearer guidance on how to judge and report
on the effective use of technology to enhance learning.
It has never been more important for apprenticeship providers to develop and enhance their blended model of provision.
Objectives:
- Understand the factors that contribute to an effective blended model of apprenticeship delivery
- Identify the pedagogical skills required to deliver online learning and how they can be developed
- Learn how interactive and engaging online learning can be created cost effectively
- Learn how to plan and document blended models of delivery
- Identify a range of online environments to deliver provision
This workshop will be valuable for anyone who is:
- Planning and/or implementing a model of blended work based learning
- Enhancing or reviewing an existing blended model
- Delivering blended support, training and assessment and wants to learn new approaches and skills

The Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) is the leading trade association for vocational learning and employment providers in Britain. The majority of its 670+ members are independent private, not-for-profit and voluntary sector training and employment services organisations. Membership is open to any provider committed to quality provision and it includes 38 FE colleges involved in work based learning. AELP Members train 75% of England's 850,000 apprentices currently on programme.
Over 70% of the Work Programme prime contractors are AELP members with many other members delivering the programme as sub-contractors. AELP providers currently engage with almost 300,000 employers across the country and last year they helped 117,240 learners complete an apprenticeship.
