Mediation Skills Training course.
Learn the CAOS Model of Mediation, used in a range of public sector bodies and by individual, practising mediators.
This model is used in university dispute situations - between students, for example over accommodation issues, staff-staff disputes. Also....
  • Public sector disputes - staff-staff or complaints by the public about services. 
  • Workplace disputes such as those involving bullying allegations, performance management issues, colleague relationships, conflict in teams.
  • Family related work such as homelessness prevention, family group conferencing support, intra-family disputes perhaps between siblings, parents and children, grandparent - parent disputes, difficulties between ex-partners, perhaps over parenting issues.
  • Neighbour disputes - noise, boundary, pet, parking, rubbish disposal, communication breakdown related issues
  • .....and various others as mediation is a generic process designed to support more effective communication within dispute situations and creativity in response to conflict towards resolution of the issues. 

Outline

6 day course split into two x 3-day sessions covering the following: 

Day 1 - Introduction to Mediation
Day 2- The Initial Mediation Meeting, related communication skills used in mediation
Day 3 - The Joint Mediation Meeting


Day 4 - Further skills development, responding to difficult situations in mediation
Day 5 - Dealing with assumptions and prejudice within mediation, 
Day 6 - Role play all day of the full mediation process. 

This is an experiential learning course involving individual, pair and group work activities throughout the course including the use of role play to practise and develop the necessary skills required to provide mediation effectively in difficult relationship situations at work, within the family, in the community, as well as complaints work and other applications for which mediation is frequently used.

Speaker/s

Alan Sharland, Director of CAOS Conflict Management plus Associates of CAOS Conflict Management.

Alan has worked in a wide range of contexts in which disputes or complaints can occur including workplaces, neighbour disputes, group disputes, NHS complaints, University Student Complaints, intra-family disputes and relationship breakdowns. 

All trainers have at least 15 years of experience of practice as a Mediator.

We also offer 10% disount of block bookings of 2 or more people. 

We may also consider requests for discounts from individuals paying for themselves however these will not exceed discount rates of 15%.
