This two day workshop is open to Sports Therapists, Health Professionals or Advanced Level Manual Therapists at Level 5 or above, who with to learn Trigger Point location and dry needling for Myofascial Pain.  On this course you will learn how to identify Trigger Points and their pain referral patterns in specific muscles and how to treat them safely and effectively with dry needling.

 

About the tutor.

Alexander Boylan BSc (Hons) TCM Acu

Alexander has an honours degree in Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture from Salford University and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. He has been practicing as a professional acupuncturist since 2005 and runs a busy clinic in Manchester city centre, working with professional, Olympic & Commonwealth athletes and members of the public. His pursuit of clinical excellence has taken him to further his education with some of the best tutors the UK and the United States have to offer, including studying Classical Acupuncture with Master Jeffrey Yuen and the highly effective Tung Style Acupuncture with Dr. Henry McCann.

A truly integrated therapist, Alexander is trained and experienced in using Myofascial Release, Neuro-muscular therapy, Acupuncture, Deep-tissue Massage, Be Activated movement therapy, NLP and Strategic Intervention. He specialises in working with musculo-skeletal pain & dysfunction, neurological pain, and uses his unique blend of skills to help his clients overcome both acute and chronic long-standing conditions.

Alexander’s energy, enthusiasm and commitment to giving his clients the best possible service has built a reputation as a Therapist which is second to none, and now he is both delighted and excited to be bringing all these attributes to teaching and sharing his knowledge with the students of Active Health Groups.

About the workshop

This two-day course is open to Sports Therapists, Health professionals or advanced level manual therapists at level 5 or above, who wish to learn trigger point location and dry-needling for Myofascial pain. On this course you will learn how to identify trigger points and their pain referral patterns in specific muscles and how to treat them safely and effectively with dry-needling.

Ideal for therapists who wish to expand their knowledge and skills base to incorporate dry needling into their practice.

This workshop will cover:

  •           History of dry needling
  •           Basic understanding of the effect of dry-needling on the nervous system
  •           An understanding of trigger points and their referred pain patterns
  •           Safe and hygienic needle insertion and removal in a clinical setting
  •           How to guide a client through their first acupuncture session
  •           Hands on muscle location and identification
  •           Gain experience locating trigger points in specific muscles
  •           Using dry-needling to deactivate trigger points
  •           A unique approach integrating Eastern and Western philosophies.

Dry-needling is a simple, safe and effective approach to working with pain which can be successfully integrated into the practice of almost any hands on qualified professional therapist. Using these methods, trigger point pain can often be dealt with swiftly and effectively with minimum fuss and discomfort to the client.

‘Active Health Group’ was formed in 1997, as ‘Active Health Sports Therapy’, by its founder Richard Johnson.  Initially, Richard ran a busy clinic, worked for various sports clubs, as well as teaching Sports Massage and Sports Therapy.

In 1999, Richard co-founded ‘Sports Therapy Organisation’ (STO), as a small networking group of physiotherapists and sports massage therapists working in sport which mainly covered the North West.  Its main aims were to provide support and advice, and also to ‘exchange’ ideas and techniques through small workshops.

As STO grew, the need for a good quality Sports Therapy course became more apparent as there were very few around.

In 2000, Christian Platts joined the team, and ‘Active Health Group’ was born.  Its main aim was to provide a good alternative to the traditional sports therapy courses offered mainly at colleges of further education.

Since then, Active Health Group has provided consistent professional training in Sports Therapy and Massage, and was the first company to develop externally accredited qualifications at Level 5 in Sports Therapy and Sports & Remedial Massage, and at Level 4 in Myofascial Release.  Where we have lead, others have followed. ...
