Objective

On completion of this 4-day virtual course together with associated pre and post course assignments, delegates will be equipped to administer and code the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) to the level of Research Reliability.

The course is suitable for users of the original ADOS as well as users of ADOS-2.

The ADOS was created by Catherine Lord, Ph.D., Michael Rutter, M.D., FRS, Pamela C. DiLavore, Ph.D., and Susan Risi, Ph.D. The second edition, ADOS-2, was released in May 2012. ADOS-2 is published by Western Psychological Services.

Prerequisites

Typical applicants will have a background in psychology, psychiatry, paediatrics, nursing, speech therapy or similar, and will be currently employed in that capacity either as a clinician, part of a clinical team or part of a research team. Qualifications and employment information must be provided on the course application form. BeginningwithA reserves the right to refuse applications from anyone who appears to have insufficient experience to benefit from the course. Participants must have access to an ADOS Kit (Hogrefe product code 5580001) or ADOS-2 Kit if they wish to complete the post-course assignments for research reliability.

Description
  • The course takes place over 4 days of virtual delivery. On successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate of course completion to Clinical Reliability. Optionally you may also undertake post-course practical assignments to be assessed for Research Reliability.
  • You will experience a mix of Zoom discussion and practical activities based on videos of ADOS administrations.
  • You will have access to all course videos and other resources for six months from the date of the course.
  • You will receive all coding booklets required for administrations coding during the course.
  • Throughout the course there are ample opportunities for questions and discussion.
  • The course includes an introduction to the ADOS-2, coding of all modules, ASD diagnonis and classification, ADOS-2 algorithms, and embedding ADOS-2 into practice.

The price per delegate is £950 ex VAT. The price includes ADOS-2 coding booklets which will be sent to you by post before the course.

Dr Carol Stott

The ADOS-2 course is delivered by Dr Carol Stott. Carol is a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Chartered Scientist (CSci) and a member of the British Psychological Society. She has an MSc in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in the epidemiology of Specific Language Impairment from the University of Cambridge.

 

Carol spent 13 years in the University of Cambridge Department of Psychiatry carrying out research into genotype-phenotype associations in developmental disorder and with the University of Cambridge Autism Research Centre (ARC) investigating the population frequency of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). In addition to her training and consultancy work with BeginningwithA, she advises a number of research projects on methodology and implementation of screening and diagnostic tools.
