VENIPUNCTURE (Accredited E-Learning)
This course covers all the skills and knowledge to safely carry out venepuncture. Although there will be opportunities to practice on a model, the candidate will have to undergo supervised practice in a clinical setting to be confirmed as competent.
It is the responsibility of the learner to ensure they have their competencies signed before practicing independently.
This course is accredited by the CPD Standard and can be used as an evidence to update your CPD.
Learning Outcomes
Identify the roles and responsibilities in relation to venipuncture
Review the anatomy & veins of the arm
Explore practical aspects of venipuncture
Assess and select suitable sites for venepuncture and sites to be avoided
Define the steps required to prepare the patient for venepuncture including equipment required
Practice will be by using a simulation arm with synthetic blood.
Critically analyze the potential complications associated with venepuncture and discuss appropriate actions to prevent and/or treat these complications.
Discuss health and safety issues and the prevention and control of infection with regard to venipuncture

Refreshed in accordance with your company guidelines, local and national authoritative guidelines and any regulatory requirements
