This three-day course is designed to ensure that those persons who are appointed as a Principal Designer/CDM Co-ordinator can carry out their role in a professional manner.

To benefit from this course, those who attend should have a basic knowledge of construction site operations.

Health and Safety (Construction, Design and Management) Regulations 2015Introduction:

In order to comply with the CDM Regulations a client must appoint a suitably qualified and competent person to carry out the duties of Principal Designer/CDM Co-Ordinator, in certain circumstances.
This means that where a client uses more than one contractor and designer the must be a principal body appointed in each case. The Principal Designer role must be undestaken by someone who has design knowledge and competence, but may not have knowledge ofhealth and safety under CDM 2015.
Competence is defined as 'sufficient experience, technical knowledge and training'. This course provides the training element, which also includes some underpinning knowledge of legislation, risk assessments and method statements.

Important Information

This is NOT an attendance only course. Delegates will be required to pass a written question paper.

Duration:

Three Days – A photographic ID card and a certificate of training will be given to successful delegates.

Who Should Attend:

The role of the Principal Designer/CDM Co-ordinator is critical to construction site operations and it carries a great deal of responsibility in law. This course is aimed at delegates who will be required to act as an PD/CDM - C and who do not have any formal training but do have some experience and technical knowledge of construction site management. Only suitable personnel should be selected for this course.

Aims:

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge and training with regard to legislation and the roles and responsibilities of all personnel involved in construction safety.

Content:
  • CDM Regulations content and duties given and how they impact on Principal Designer/CDM co-ordination
  • An understanding of the proactive role of the Principal Designer/CDM Co-ordinator in risk management, particularly the legal requirement to design out risk where reasonably practicable.
  • Requirements and implications of providing the Principal Designer/CDM co-ordination service provision
  • Discharging duties of the Principal Designer/CDM Co-ordinator
  • Site safety systems
  • Legal aspects and implications
Training Method:

This is an intense course delivered in a classroom environment. This is a pass or fail course with assessments by written question paper.

*All delegates will be required to bring copies of safety documents (method statement).
