Practical demonstration
The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery. This on-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.
Oral questioning
Learners will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by answering a range of questions relating to the assessment criteria with in the learners records given to each learner at the beginning of the course.
All learning outcomes in the unit(s) must be achieved to successfully gain the qualification.
Outline
This qualification is split over two mandatory units.
- Role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assess an emergency incident
- Manage an unresponsive casualty breathing/not breathing normally
- Recovery position and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
- Choking casualty
- Wounds and bleeds
- Casualty in shock
- Casualty with minor injuries – Cuts, Grazes, Burns, Scalds, Splinters
Unit 2 – Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace
- Secondary survey
- Injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- liSuspected head, spinal and chest injuries
- Burns, scalds and eye injuries
- Casualty with sudden poisoning
- Management of anaphylaxis
- Suspected major illnesses – Heart attack, Stroke, Seizures, Asthma, Diabetes
