Six-week beginners creative writing course

Our one-to-one Online Beginners Creative Writing Course is suitable for complete beginners. No writing experience is required. It’s also suitable for someone who hasn’t written anything for a while and who would like to get back into a writing routine.

You will be given weekly notes, tips and exercises to help you. Each exercise will be read by your tutor and you will receive written feedback.

However, the main thing is to free up your imagination and have fun!

Topics covered will include:

(1) Introduction – We’ll look at how to find ideas, the importance of observation and the power of memory.

(2) Characterisation – In the second module we’ll examine what makes successful characters in fiction.

(3) Point of View. Every piece of writing comes from a particular point of view. One of the most important things you must decide upon is that of person.

(4) Plot. We will look at how to generate ideas and we’ll also examine conflict.

(5) Dialogue, Settings, Endings. In the fifth module, we’ll take a look at dialogue and provide some tips as to how to write effective dialogue. We’ll also look at endings and some do’s and don’t’s! Finally, we’ll examine setting and the relationship between settings and character.

(6) Revision and Getting Published. In the final week, we will look at how to revise and improve your writing and how to get your work into print.
