Work with Non-Licensable Asbestos NNLW
Details
Under the regulations, certain materials that contain asbestos may be worked on or removed by individuals who are not licensed with the Health and Safety Executive.
These materials are hard bonded products where the asbestos fibres are trapped within the base material and are therefore unlikely to be released into the air.
They include:
- asbestos cement;
- vinyl (e.g. floor tiles);
- bitumen and resins;
- textured decorative coatings (e.g. Artex).
Anyone planning to work on these non-licensable asbestos materials must be trained to a higher standard, known as Level 2 training.
The Level 2 course covers Asbestos Awareness (CAT A) (as described above) followed by a more detailed examination of the procedures and equipment required for safe working.
Level 2 training means that a competent contractor can work on many asbestos materials without the need to employ a licensed asbestos specialist, thereby saving the client time and considerable expense.
