This course contributes toward the recommended guided learning hours, you should carry out practice reflection, document and attach subsequent evidence from this training.


Summary
The purpose of this two day training session is to provide to a group staff within the workplace who have no experience of care, an introduction into the basic skills required to deliver person centred care. Ideal for group homes who require consistency in training new workers.


Who should attend?

This unit is relevant to new workers who are engaged in personal care to
clients in all care settings – hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in
the client’s own home.

Outline

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to:
1. Recognise main barriers to communication.
2. Understand how to communicate effectively
3. Understand the effect of food on the body and general health
4. Understand how to make changes to supplement illness
5. Identify key minerals and nutrients required by the body
6. Understand the importance of adequate hydration.
7. Know how to provide an adequate diet, both nutritionally and practically
8. Understand how to provide support with personal care.
9. Develop confidence in recording and observation skills
10. Understand the most common causes of incontinence
11. Regard toileting as an individual exercise
12. Focus on a holistic approach to the individual
13. Demonstrate when and how to report abuse/neglect.

Equivalent Relevant information

1. Certificates are issued for each learners and if dated, are valid to that period. N.B Learners attending must complete the entire duration of the training to qualify for a certificate.
2. A learner assessment may be required post training for audit and PDP purposes.

Registration details are kept by us for Seven years and are legal documents. It is important to register in block capitals clearly on the day.

Speaker/s

George Flaherty MSc MBA Ba Ed, started working within social care in 1995. He is now renowned for his ability to pass on practical skills to those that attend his seminars and courses across the UK, Europe and the USA.

Over the years George has managed and successfully marketed his own businesses. He has now passes the skills he has learnt to owners and managers of social care settings. George is often a guest speaker at conferences and seminars explaining how to fill care home beds and promote homes successfully.

He is a published author of many books. His latest book The Guide to Filling Care Home Beds is due for publication December 2011.
