Summary
This accredited dementia care course contributes toward the recommended guided learning hours; you should carry out practice reflection, document and attach subsequent evidence from this training. The course involves use of the
SFC knowledge sets for Dementia Care and distance learning dementia care workbook.
The course will provide for care managers and key senior care staff an advanced benchmark standard of Dementia
care. Delivery methods will include reflective practice, intervention tools, group
work, case studies and visual presentation

Who should attend?
This training is relevant to RGN/ RMN/ RN/ CQSW / NVQ or senior key workers
with an existing understanding of dementia care and who may be responsible
for planning care to individuals in all care settings – hospital, residential, day
care or foster-care or in the client’s own home.

Outline

Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able to
1. Understand where dementia care fits in to the Qualification and credit
framework and the role of the manager
2. Understand the legal aspects of dementia care
3. Equality and inclusion issues when planning dementia care
4. Understand the importance of working in a person centered way and
how it links to inclusion
5. Person centered care planning for dementia care
6. Involving the SU, family and multi disciplinary team in the care plan
process
7. Using the Kitwood standards as a Benchmark
8. Working with dementia care mapping
9. Administering medication in dementia care
10. Mental capacity Act and its implications for dementia care
11.
12. Complete, in small groups, care planning case studies
13. Complete a multiple choice audit and workbook Develop an Action
plan

Exercises include:
- The Kitwood Challenge – try meeting the standards!
- Alzheimer’s DVD :assorted clips ‘in their own words’
- Case studies
- Workbook
- Evaluation

1. For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry
out practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training
2. Certificates are issued for each candidate
3. A candidate assessment is required for post training and QCF auditing
The key points to remember are:
1. The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed.
2. Staff should not be expected to be on duty
3. Staff attending must remain for the entire length of the session to qualify for a certificate
N.B Registration details are kept by us for Seven years. It is important to register on the day.

Speaker/s
