First Aid at Work Course (Level 3)

This new QCF qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.  All successful students will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate, along with a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualification which is valid for a period of 3 years.

Students are independently examined on the final afternoon of the course. Upon successful completion of the course, certification is valid for three years.

Once qualified, holders of the First Aid at Work certificate can be used as first aiders in the workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This course can be adapted to suit a particular audience from security operatives to hospitality and leisure personnel. The First Aid at Work course is run over three days and includes both theory and practical sessions.

• The role of the first aider
• Contents of First Aid kits (avoid cross infection)
• Recording of incidents and accidents
• Assessing the situation in an emergency

Administer first aid to a casualty who;

• is unconscious (including seizures),
• requires cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR),
• is choking,
• is wounded or bleeding,
• is in shock,
• has minor conditions – to include: minor cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters.

Administer first aid to a casualty with;

• injuries to bones, muscles, joints including suspected spinal injury,
• sudden poisoning,
• burns and scalds,
• eye injuries,
• anaphylactic shock*,
• Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including heart attack*, stroke, epilepsy, asthma & diabetes.

This course takes place over three days.  The assessment of this unit includes both practical demonstration/assignment and oral examination.
