In order to work as a CCTV Operator in the UK you must hold a valid SIA CCTV Licence. There are three Different units in this qualification all of which must be passed before the qualification is gained.
The first of these sections looks into the security industry as a whole which includes a wide variety of subjects but is not limited to; Introduction to SIA and security, Communication, Emergency Procedures, Fire Procedures, Health and Safety and the Law. This section has a 25 question multiple choice exam at the start of the second day.
The Second section looks at the current legislation involved in CCTV operations including the subjects of understanding CCTV codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines, understanding relevant legislation and how it impacts on CCTV operations, roles and responsibilities of a CCTV operator and other CCTV staff, understanding the characteristics of a CCTV system, Understand how to make effective use of CCTV equipment, and understanding emergency procedures in a CCTV control room. This is assessed through a 40 question multiple choice exam.
The third and final section of the course looks at the practical side of CCTV operations. This includes ensuring that the delegates are able to operate CCTV systems effectively. This is assessed on the day by the instructor.
All three components must have been completed and passed in order for candidates to apply to the SIA CCTV Licence. If any candidates fail to pass any of the modules then a free re-sit is available.
The course is held over 3 or 4 days depending if the candidate has passed a Security Guard or Door Supervisor course since January 2015.
This course costs £180 + VAT per person.
