This two day course will introduce you to new metal clay techniques through some more advanced projects in a relaxed atmosphere. The emphasis will be on building confidence working with metal clay at your own pace and focusing on fun and technique. You'll learn how to make a stone set pendant, a leaf pendant, a syringe decorated ring, a pair of earrings using PMC Sheet and a glass cabachon pendant all to your own designs.

During the day, you’ll learn the following skills:-

  • How to set stones
  • Create a leaf using slip
  • Ring making
  • Syringe work
  • Using PMC Sheet
  • How to use and fire glass in metal clay

Julia will help you to create beautiful fine silver jewellery in whatever style you choose. All the equipment you need will be provided and you can buy additional materials should you wish. At the end of the day you'll have enough knowledge and confidence to create more complex pieces of jewellery using the appropriate metal clay for your design.

This course is suitable for anyone with a bit of basic metal clay experience and for people who need a bit more time to learn new things. There is no pressure and the tutor will work with individuals at their own pace to ensure they achieve their goals for the course.

The course cost includes everything you need to make all the projects.

The Cornwall School of Art, Craft and Jewellery was founded by two UK craft and jewellery artists, Julia Rai and Marion Wilson. Their vision is for this centre to bring together the very best teachers in the fields of art, craft and jewellery, in an inspiring creative environment.

Based at Coldrenick Farm in Bodmin, the School provides students of all levels with a safe and supportive learning environment. From short taster classes through to longer intensive courses, the School caters for a wide range of art, craft and jewellery making subjects.

The School is in a converted barn on a working sheep farm. The farm dates back to the 1800's and has been in the current owner's family since that time. The courtyard outside has a number of granite standing stones reclaimed from a Dutch barn which used to stand on the site. The location is rural and quiet, completely conducive to a relaxed and creative break from everyday life.
