Outline
Learners must achieve one credit from the mandatory unit to be awarded the Level 3 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid. The duration of this course is 6 hours and covers the following topics:
Unit 1 – Paediatric Emergency First Aid
- Understand the role of the first aider
- Preventing cross infection
- Recording accidents & incidents
- How to assess & act safely in an emergency situation
- Treat an unconscious casualty
- Administer CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation to child & adult)
- Allergic reaction (Anaphylaxis)
- Choking
- Asthma
- Seizures
- Wounds or bleeds
- Hypovolemic Shock
- Minor injuries to include small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns & scalds
Practical demonstration
The practical assessment of learners for the qualification is completed throughout the course delivery. This on-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.
Oral questioning
Learners will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by answering a range of questions relating to the assessment criteria with in the learners records given to each learner at the beginning of the course.
All learning outcomes in the unit(s) must be achieved to successfully gain the qualification.
