YMCA Awards Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates

Part 1

This QCF accredited course will give you the background knowledge of Joseph Pilates, his teaching, and the basic skills to prepare and deliver safe, effective beginners mat-based Pilates classes. This course is stage 1 of the full YMCA Awards Level 3 Certificate in Teaching Mat Based Pilates, you will learn how to teach Pilates to groups giving you very important skills.

The qualification comprises of 4 units:

Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology and Principles of Exercise for Fitness and Health

Unit 2 Supporting clients and Health and Safety

Unit 3 Plan a Beginners Mat-Based Pilates Sessions

Unit 4 Teach and Evaluate Beginners Mat-Based Pilates Sessions

A thorough understanding on all of these topics is necessary to be a Pilates Teacher.

You will need to start studying for the Anatomy and Physiology unit with 6 weeks of online distance learning prior to the practical part one of the course starting.   You will have access to a dynamic website with fantastic graphics.  We will also give you a manual and schedule to guide your learning.  And you will have support from your tutor.  For Part 1 of this course, you will have an internal A&P exam.  The external Level 3 A&P exam is taken on Day 1 of Part 2 of this Pilates course.

To be accepted on to this 5 day accredited course you do not need a recognised fitness instructing qualification, however, Fitt require you to have good literacy and numeracy skills along with lots of experience of participating in Pilates exercise classes.

Part 2 – YMCA Awards Level 3 Certificate in Instructing Mat-Based Pilates

If you are a Level 2 Pilates teacher, this will bring you up to date with current requirements.  With this 2nd part to the full YMCA Awards (under QCF) accredited L3 Pilates qualification you will be qualified to teach Pilates group mat classes as well as private one to one Pilates sessions. You will be able to apply for Pilates membership with the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 3.

This course will develop your knowledge and teaching skills as an advanced Pilates instructor and carries 20 REP points. The qualification comprises of 4 units:

Unit 1 Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Exercise and Fitness Knowledge

Unit 2 Principles and Fundamentals of Mat-Based Pilates

Unit 3 Plan and prepare to instruct a progressive mat Pilates session

Unit 4 Instruct, manage, adapt and evaluate a mat Pilates session.

To be accepted onto only this 2nd part of the full YMCA Awards L3 Pilates 5 day course you will need the FITT Foundation Certificate in Basic Pilates (Part 1) or a recognised Level 2 Mat-Based Pilates Certificate.
