WHAT CLASS SHOULD I ENROL MY CHILD IN?

FOUNDATION

The swimmer’s ‘journey through aquatics’ starts with Foundation, a programme for developing early-years water confidence, encouraged through sessions such as ‘adult and child’ and pre-school sessions. Emphasis is on the development of very basic motor skills and an introduction to water and the swimming environment through fun and games.

For children aged 3 & 4 years old with little to no confidence: Ducklings 1 – 2

For Children age 3 & 4 with confidence and previous experience: Ducklings 3 – 5

FOR CHILDREN AGE 5 YEARS AND OVER ENROL INTO THE STAGES BELOW:

STAGE 1

Developing basic safety awareness, the ‘class’ scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids, e.g. arm bands, floats etc.

STAGE 2

Developing safe entries to the water, including jumping, basic floating, travel up to 5 metres and rotation unaided to regain upright positions. Swimmers may use aids, e.g. arm bands, floats etc.

STAGE 3

Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.

STAGE 4

Developing understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming 10 metres to a given standard.

STAGE 5

Developing ‘watermanship’ through sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation. Performing all strokes to the standard as directed and swimming up to 25 metres.

STAGE 6

Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing; developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise and swimming up to 50 metres.

STAGE 7

Developing a quality stroke technique up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout Stages 1-7.

Personal Survival

Covering survival knowledge, awareness of dangers and vital life-saving information, this range of four awards is a must for any parent to consider for their child.

The Preliminary Safety Skills Award offers your children an introduction to water safety and is targeted at swimmers who no longer use buoyancy aids.

The Personal Survival Awards are in two levels and ensure learners know how to react if they find themselves in difficulty by testing them in real-life situations.

Love to SWIM provide small group lessons for children and adults including women only and girls only lessons and private swimming lessons in East London.

Love to Swim follows the high standard of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and all of our children’s swimming lessons follow the British Gas ASA ‘Learn to Swim Pathway’ which is a world recognised programme for teaching children to swim.

In addition to our regular programme we are currently working in partnership with a number of community groups and local government to help boost women’s participation in sport, especially those who care for children or who live in disadvantaged communities.
