Course Summary
 

The NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is a qualification for those with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace. It covers the principles of fire and explosion, causes and prevention of fires, fire protection in buildings and ensuring the safety of people in the event of fire.

People throughout the world with fire safety responsibilities at work, particularly those tasked with carrying our fire risk assessments and preventing loss of life and property. Crucially, the practical element of the course also ensures that participants can carry out, unaided, a fire risk assessment and prepare a recommendations report for management.

Length of Course
 

The NGC1 and FC1 modules of the course can be completed in the classroom in 10 days, split into two separate 5-day sessions with the exam usually on the Monday following the course which gives the weekend for extra revision. A blend of both classroom and private study can be used to suit your individual needs. Following this, the FC2 project will be completed by the candidate, usually at their own workplace.
 

Course Information
 

The course is made up of the following three units:
 

• Management of Health & Safety (NGC1)
• Fire Safety and Risk Management (FC1)
• Fire Safety Practical Application (FC2)
 

Assessment
 

Units NGC1 and FC1 are taught units each assessed by one two-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
 

Unit FC2 is assessed by a practical assessment, usually carried out at the candidate’s own workplace which must be completed within 2 weeks of the examination date for FC1. The practical examination is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
