The Lorry Mounted Crane (HIAB) trainee will be expected to identify basic construction and components together with their uses, limitations and principles of operation and understand the hydraulic system, operator duties and responsibilities by the end of
this training.
Designed for drivers who have little or no experience, or training of vehicles fitted with lorry mounted cranes.
COURSE CONTENT
- Introduction to the course
- Health and Safety Work Act 1974 including identifying hazards and understand the principles of Risk Assessments and know the relevance of statutory regulations, ACOPS and guidance documents
- Inspection and use of lifting equipment (chains, ropes and tackle)
- The code of practise for lorry mounted cranes
- Basic operation and controls
- Setting up to lift and re-setting for travelling
- Specific hazards and controls
- Pre-checks before operating
- Slinging and correct use of slings
- Safe working loads (SWL)
- Estimation of weight
- Load weight assessment
- Setting up equipment
- The role of the banksman
- Practical operations loading and unloading with crane using varying types of loads and conditions
- Be able to complete Records, Logs and Safety Check Sheets
- 1 day Refresher for Certified Operators
- 2 days for Novice Operators
A certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates attending the full duration of the course
