Our Patient Moving and Handling course (1 day) is designed for healthcare workers who require training in safely moving and handle patients under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005 and Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007.

General Aims:

The course is designed to develop the participant’s knowledge and application of manual handling and patient lifting and enable them upon completion of the course to adopt best practice manual handling techniques while carrying out their duties.

Method of Delivery:

The course will utilize both theory and practical learning which will encourage learner participation and feedback and ensure strong knowledge of practical skills.

Course Overview

  • Theory:
  • The law and its application to the manual handling environment
  • Muscular-skeletal system
  • Biomechanics and mechanism of injury
  • Flexibility
  • Ergonomics and risk assessment
  • Basic principles of lifting
  • Use of hoists
  • Practical Application:
  • Inanimate Lifting

Patient Moving & Handling: includes

  • Log rolling
  • Sitting patient up in bed
  • Turning patient in bed using sliding sheets
  • Moving patient up the bed using sliding sheets
  • Sitting Patient to edge of bed
  • Standing patient
  • Transferring patient from bed to chair
  • The falling patient
  • Correct use of hoist / slings

The course is delivered when and where you want it and individuals and groups are welcome to our training facility in Broombridge, Dublin 7
