5E Ltd offers varying levels of ECDL courses in London at many of their different centres in North London. The European Computer Driving License is an essential step for those who have never used a computer before, those who require more confidence in using a computer and even those who use computers regularly but require improved IT or Microsoft Office Skills.

ECDL Entry 3 (BCS Award in Computer and Online Basics)

The BCS Award in Computer and Online Basics (ECDL Entry 3 course) is an accessible computer and internet qualification for absolute beginners. It is designed for learners who have little or no experience in using a computer and covers basic orientation and usage of the mouse, keyboard and knowledge of computer hardware and operating system features.

ECDL Essentials

The ECDL Essentials course is an excellent introduction to the world of technology with units covering IT fundamentals. ECDL has a particular focus on the first steps in using a computer, explaining internet and email usage, and teaching about how they can be used safely and productively.

ECDL Extra

The ECDL Extra course builds on a learner’s initial basic knowledge and experience, improving their understanding of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. This course is ideal for learners wishing to strengthen their office skills.

ECDL Advanced

By completing this qualification, you will develop your understanding and capability in the use of IT and learn how to use software efficiently. You will also gain advanced IT user knowledge and skills you need to work productively in a managerial job role that requires the expert use of common IT software applications.

ECDL Entry 3 (BCS Award in Computer and Online Basics)

Start your journey with this ECDL Entry Level 3 course in London. Learn the complete basics of using a computer – from how to use the keyboard and mouse, to sending emails online and using files. Gain expert tuition with full access to hands-on lab facilities (where applicable). This short course is ideal for those who have never used a computer before or wish to start from the basics.

Also known as BCS Entry Level Award in Computer and Online Basics, this is the first of four stages leading to a full ECDL qualification – the other three stages are ECDL Essentials, ECDL Extra and ECDL Advanced

Through five clear, structured sections, learners will cover:

  • Computer Basics – understanding the basic computer parts and terminology, and how to use the computer, keyboard and mouse
  • Introduction to the Desktop
  • Introduction to Documents
  • The World Wide Web
  • Email

You will be learning the following modules on the ECDL course:

  • Computer Basics
  • Online Basics
Per module, you will begin by learning via the online BCS Mosaic learning system. After completing the online material, you will complete an online BCS examination. This process repeats for each module on the course and allows for a thorough evaluation of your skills and knowledge as you progress to achieving your final qualification and certification.
You will receive a certificate from BCS confirming you have passed the qualification, once you have passed both exams. This will arrive within a month or so and you will be contacted to collect your certificate from our centre.

Taking this course counts towards the following qualifications:
  • The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • ITQ

Duration

  • 2-3 weeks minimum



ECDL Essentials

Also known as BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users, ECDL Essentials is the second of four stages leading to a full ECDL qualification – the other three stages are ECDL Entry Level 3, ECDL Extra and ECDL Advanced.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the main concepts of IT
  • Know how to use the computer and manage files
  • Understand the basics of the Internet and e-mail
  • Know the purpose/structure/features and test arrangements for ECDL Essentials
  • Prepare and practise skills for the module tests
  • Take the tests for the ECDL Modules 1, 2 and 7

You will be learning the following modules on the ECDL Essentials course:

  • Security for IT Users
  • IT User Fundamentals
  • Using Email and the Internet

Per module, you will begin by learning via the online BCS Mosaic learning system. After completing the online material, you will complete paper mock exams and sample tests given by your tutor to check areas of weakness after which you will proceed to an online BCS assessment and the final BCS exam. This process repeats for each module on the course and allows for a thorough evaluation of your skills and knowledge as you progress to achieving your final qualification and certification.

Taking this course counts towards the following qualifications:

  • The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • ITQ

Duration

  • 42 – 150 hours working at your own pace



ECDL Extra

Undertake this ECDL Extra course in London as Stage 2 of your learning in the basic usage of computers and Windows Office software. Gain expert tuition with full access to lab facilities (where applicable).

Also known as ECDL Part Two or BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users, ECDL Extra is the second of three stages leading to a full ECDL qualification – the other two stages are ECDL Essentials and ECDL Advanced. The ECDL certificate is a globally recognised ICT and digital literacy certification.

You will be studying the following modules as part of your ECDL Extra course:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets software
  • Presentation software
  • Improving Productivity using IT

Per module, you will begin by completing the online learning material via BCS Mosaic. You will then take mock papers and sample tests given to you by your tutor to engage any weaknesses in your knowledge, after which you will take a BCS online assessment followed by the BCS online exam. This process repeats for each module on the course to ensure that you are equipped with thorough knowledge and practical experience through to full certification.

Taking this course can count towards part of the following qualifications:

  • The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • ITQ

Duration

  • 42 – 150 hours working at your own pace

 
ECDL Advanced

By completing this qualification, you will develop your understanding and capability in the use of IT and learn how to use software efficiently. You will also gain advanced IT user knowledge and skills you need to work productively in a managerial job role that requires the expert use of common IT software applications.

You can expect to develop skills including:

  • How to use IT tools to improve productivity and work more effectively; such as using automated tools and advanced features of software applications
  • How to realise the full potential of spreadsheet software to produce high-quality management information
  • How to exploit the advanced features of word processing software to enhance work, improve productivity and save time
  • How to use advanced features to create high-impact presentations, and demonstrate expert presentation skills
  • How to use advanced tools available within database software to organise and manage information

Qualification Overview

This qualification is a level 3 Certificate that covers high level IT user skills and applications.

You will complete 5 mandatory units:

  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Database Software
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

Assessment

  • Assessment consists of a one-hour exam

Duration

All other modules have the same guided learning hours of 40 hours per module, giving a total of 140 guided learning hours.
