This EHOA certified course is designed to provide learners with food safety and hygiene knowledge and skills required in any food business at the Food Safety Authority Level Two food safety skills.

This course is suitable for food handlers in all businesses including; Supermarkets, Restaurants, Staff Catering, Hotels, Butchers, Childcare, Home Care, Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Food manufacturing or processing.

A basic understanding of English is required, but there are no special entry requirements.

Duration: Two half days plus additional one hour for exam on day 2

Location: EIQA Offices, 68 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this training you will have an understanding of;

  • The importance of food safety & hygiene in the workplace.
  • The sources of microbiological, chemical and physical hazards as well as key controls.
  • Food contamination.
  • HACCP requirements from food delivery, storage, food preparation, cooking and service.
  • The importance of hand washing and good personal hygiene.
  • Hygiene requirements for food premises and equipment.
  • Their individual legal responsibilities in relation to food safety.
  • How to clean effectively & the importance of proper waste disposal.
  • The importance of pest control & how to recognize signs of pest infestation.

Assessment & Certification:

There is a one hour written exam at the end of the course which includes multiple choice and short written answer type questions.

Reasonable accommodations can be made for learners with special requirements to access and complete the course, if these are identified to us in advance.

Successful completion of the course provides the learner with a nationally recognised EHOA Certificate in Primary Food Safety.
