This FETAC certificate course is designed to provide learners with food safety and hygiene knowledge and skills required in any food business at the Food Safety Authority Level Two food safety skills.

This course is suitable for all food handlers in the retail, catering and food processing industries, including:

  • Supermarkets
  • Restaurants
  • Staff Catering
  • Hotels
  • Butchers
  • Crèches
  • Care Homes
  • Food Factories

It is a mandatory module of the FETAC Level 5 Major Award in Butchering Skills and can be used towards FETAC Major Awards in Childcare, Community Health and Healthcare support amongst others.

Duration: 1 Day (09:00am to 5:30pm)

Location: EIQA Offices, 68 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this training you will have an understanding of;

  • The importance of food safety & hygiene in the workplace.
  • Essential controls to reduce food safety hazards.
  • The importance of hand washing and good personal hygiene.
  • How to check food deliveries and control food safety throughout the food chain from delivery to consumption.
  • How to complete HACCP & food safety records and their importance.
  • Their legal responsibilities in relation to food safety.
  • How to clean effectively & the importance of proper waste disposal.
  • The importance of pest control & how to recognize signs of pest infestation.
  • The basic principles of HACCP.

Assessment & Certification

The course is ideal for learners who don’t like completing exams! Assessment is by completion of course workbook during the day & practical demonstration by learners of food safety skills.

A basic understanding of English is required, but there are no special entry requirements.

Successful completion of the course provides the learner with a FETAC Level 5 Component Certificate in Workplace Food Safety & Hygiene.
