Under the guidance of some of the UK’s foremost composers, musicians and specialist teachers, the programme will give students the opportunity to work on individual pieces in their preferred style, and to broaden their appreciation and understanding of different
genres and techniques of composition.
Students can attend for 1 or 2 weeks.
Outline
Under the guidance of some of the UK’s foremost composers, musicians and specialist teachers, the Ingenium Academy Composition Programme offers students the opportunity to work on individual pieces in their preferred style, and to broaden their appreciation
and understanding of different genres and techniques of contemporary composition and orchestration.
The course includes both one-to-one sessions and group workshops where students can share their ideas. Student composers have access to an individual practice room to work on their compositions, and a computer suite with Sibelius notation software. Ingenium
staff lead in-depth sessions about their instrument with student composers and students have the opportunity to ask questions about writing for professional musicians. Composition students also collaborate with young musicians from the Ingenium chamber music,
conducting and piano programmes, and some of these works are performed by their peers in a public concert at the end of the week.
Every week, our students take part in a wide range of vocal, instrumental and rhythmical workshops led by internationally renowned experts in jazz, chamber, folk and international music. These workshops are designed to broaden each student's musical experience by exposing them to something new.
Our industry experts lead a variety of workshops that have included:
- Musical awareness, performance skills and interpretation
- Conducting
- Jazz improvisation and performance
- Instrumental improvisation and devising music
- Chamber and small ensemble playing
- Beatboxing and a cappella
- International music
- Life in the industry
- Gospel Choir
- Healthy instrumental practice techniques and avoiding injury
