Our Slips Trips & Falls online training course will look at exactly what slips, trips and falls are, what causes them, what risks they pose, and what you can do to prevent them. The course will also consider whose responsibility it is to deal with and report them.
Slips, trips and falls are responsible for almost a third of all workplace injuries, and over a quarter of workplace fatalities. Slips trips and fall accidents can happen for a number of reasons including poor working environment, poorly maintained floors and steps, inappropriate footwear and poor housekeeping etc. The design and maintenance of a workplace can also feature in these accidents.
LegislationThe Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers to ensure the health and safety of all employees and anyone affected by their work, so far as is reasonably practicable – including taking steps to control slip and trip risks. In addition, employees have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others and must use any safety equipment provided.
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires employers to assess risks (including slip, trip and fall risks) and, where necessary, take actions to address them. These regulations also require employers to provide suitable training and instruction to workers where required.
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 requires floors to be suitable, in good condition and free from obstructions. People should be able to move around safely.
