How does it work?

Units covered

• Unit 1 – Introduction to manual handling: In this first unit of the course we will be looking at what manual handling is and the risks associated with various types of loads. The responsibilities of employees and employers will be covered as well as HSE guidance.
• Unit 2 – Risks in the workplace: Up next we will look at various risk factors that can be present in the workplace and how we go about assessing these. The acronym TILEO will be explained as well as the types of injuries that people could sustain in certain situations.
• Unit 3 – Risk assessments: This unit will cover risk assessments in more detail and explain who is responsible for carrying these out and how. The unit will also cover the three stages of risk evaluation and what can be deemed acceptable risk. Methods of recording your findings will be introduced as well.
• Unit 4 – Reducing risks and introducing control measures: Next we will look at control measures and ways in which risks can be reduced. There are many different aids and equipment that can be used to minimise risk which will be covered here. Control measures and ways in which we can reduce risks to be as low as possible will be explained.
• Unit 5 – Manual handling techniques: The final unit of this course will look at the different manual handling techniques and how these are carried out. These techniques will include lifting as well as pushing and pulling. Checks to be carried our and safe team practice will be thoroughly explained.
