Details

This course is split into four sections.

1. Planning a School Trip

In this section we look at planning and preparing for a safe and educational school trip including what the learning outcome and educational value to pupils is, visiting the venue and location to work out practicalities and create a risk assessment and appropriate transport.

2. Health and Safety on a School Trip

This section helps you to understand what staff and supervision is required for each trip, how to implement safeguarding standards, what the first aid requirements are and what to include in emergency procedures such as an Emergency Managing the Scene Procedure if there was an accident, who to contact in the event of an accident and what follow up information is required.

3. The Trip

In this section the course looks at the trip itself including arriving at the venue, behaviour during the trip, coming home and what happens after the trip.

4. Residential Trips and Trips Abroad

Trips which involve staying away from home pose a number of extra challenges and issues, particularly if they include travel to a foreign country.  In this section the course looks at the additional requirements for planning and delivering a safe and successful residential trip, either at home or abroad.

Conclusion

There’s a lot to consider when managing a school trip, whether it’s walking to a local park, going by coach to a zoo or museum or travelling abroad, or any variation in between.  It can feel quite daunting, but the potential benefits far outweigh the concerns.  School trips are often the most enduring memories from school days.  As long as the trips are well-planned and the risks carefully explored, the opportunities can be extraordinary and give your pupils experiences they may otherwise never have.

This course will give you the confidence and all the information you need to plan and successfully carry out a school trip.

Be sure to pay attention as this course concludes with a test to ensure you have understood the content.

Outline

This course takes a practical look at some of the things that must be considered when planning and delivering school trips both in the UK and abroad. It's been created to guide you through the process and to support any procedures and guidelines already in place in your school.

This training course is suitable for anyone working in Education that organises school trips and for anyone who assists on the trip, also known as an Educational Visits Coordinator. If you are the person organising/managing the school trip this is one of two courses and so we would also recommend you complete ‘School Trips for Management’ which looks at the legal requirements, roles and responsibilities, and the risk assessments required when providing school trips.

School trips are a key part of children’s learning experiences.

They give children first-hand experience of environments, situations and activities that they may not otherwise have, and this can help them grow in confidence and broaden their horizons.

However, giving pupils these experiences means taking them outside the school environment, where there are different risks and hazards. So, all trips must be carefully planned, appropriately risk assessed, and well managed.

In this training programme we take a practical look at some of the things that must be considered when planning and delivering school trips both in the UK and abroad.

Learners will learn what needs to be considered before the trip, health and safety on the trip and residential trips both in the UK and abroad. In just 45 minutes, employees will learn about the importance of safeguarding, keeping students safe on the trips, the documentation children might need and what to do in an emergency.
