Course Summary
A one day course Directing Safely is designed to provide senior managers / directors with an understanding of the moral, legal and business case for proactive health and safety management and to give guidance on effective risk management.
The course material and handouts are used in conjunction with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Turnbull Report and associated legislation
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for directors / owners of SME’s (the term ‘small and medium sized enterprises’ applies to organisations with fewer than 250 employees).
Outline
At the end of this course you should be able to have...

An understanding of the importance of strategic health and safety management and its integration into other business management systems.
2.
An understanding of directors’ and employees’ statutory duties.
3.
Skills to identify accident causes and plan for prevention through hazard identification, risk assessment and control strategies.
4.
An appreciation of the consequences of failing to manage health and safety effectively.
5.
An understanding of the importance of employee selection and the effect of human factors on health and safety.
6.
Skills to recognise the importance of consultation and communication with employees on health and safety issues.
7.
An appreciation of the significance of performance monitoring for continual improvement of health and safety management.
Delegates are presented with an IOSH Directing safely for small and medium sized enterprises certificate on successfully completing the written and practical assessments.
