As this is a nationally-recognised qualification, and not just a workshop, the course will prepare you for a career in the industry. Everything we teach can be directly applied and utilised when you’re working. In addition to exercise to music/group exercise elements, you’ll also learn Level 2 Anatomy and Physiology.
The following is by no means an exhaustive list, but it will give you a good grasp of what lies ahead:
Lesson planning:
- Adapting programmes to client ability, and utilising space and equipment available
- Developing short, medium and long term goal systems
- Adaptations, alternatives, and progressions
Utilising music for exercise
- Selecting and structuring music
- Ideal speeds for various phases/exercises (pulse raiser, prep-stretches, aerobic build-up etc)
- Music legalities
Warming up and cooling down
- Pulse raisers
- Preparation stretches
- Developmental stretches
Other units include:
- MSE concepts and exercises
- Body conditioning concepts and exercises
- Aerobic training concepts
- Critical evaluating skills
We design our assessments to bring out the best in your abilities, both in terms of theory and practical elements. Throughout the course you’ll be required to complete:
- Worksheets – including: health and safety, and supporting and managing clients
- Multiple choice theory exams – anatomy and physiology, and principles of exercise and fitness
- Group exercise lesson plan
- Summative assessment – here you’ll complete a practical group exercise session which lasts 45-60 minutes and is observed directly by an assessor
All students are required to bring along two healthy participants for day four, the practical assessment day. They will participate in the assessment as class members.
There are no prerequisites in order to enrol on this course, though students need experience of partaking in exercise to music programmes. A grasp of basic ETM steps and choreography is also important. Our recommendation is for all students to attend at least 2-3 choreography-led group exercise classes during the distance learning period.
