The NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is a new qualification for those with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace.

The training will assist personnel in carrying out fire risk assessments and identify the range of measures one will need to minimize the risk of fire in the workplace; thereafter help to raise the standards of fire risk management in workplaces across the world.

The NEBOSH National Fire Certificate course is split into three units of study, each of which is assessed separately:

  • Health and Safety Management Systems 2 - Organising
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 3 - Planning
  • Health and Safety Management Systems 4 - Measuring, Audit and Review
UNIT NFC1: Fire Safety and Risk Management
  • Managing Fire Safety
  • Principles of Fire and Explosion
  • Causes and Prevention of Fires
  • Fire Protection in Buildings
  • Safety of People in the Event of a Fire
  • Fire Safety Risk Assessment
UNIT NFC2: Workplace-Based Practical Assessment (Fire Risk Assessment)

Note * - If you have been awarded a NEBOSH International General Certificate in the last 5 years you will be exempt from IGC1 and can simply 'top up' with the specialist unit and practical assessment to achieve the new award.

HOW IS IT ASSESSED?

The course is assessed through written examinations for each of the units and a practical fire risk assessment. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. After successful completion of the two units and practical assessment, you will attain the certificate of NEBOSH International Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.

Examinations are held on the last day of the course or for distance learners four times per year at any British Council or participating university.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP

Holders of the National Fire Certificate are entitled to:

  • Associate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
  • Technician Membership (TIFPO) of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO) and the qualification meets the academic requirements for Associate Membership (AMIFPO). Persons with the relevant skills and experience may also apply to join the IFPO Fire Risk Assessors Register.
  • The NEBOSH National Fire Safety Certificate has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). It sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 13 SCQF credit points.

LEARNING OPTIONS

FULL TIME TRAINING
Full Time training will be delivered face to face over a 5-day period with examinations on the final day or Saturday.

E-LEARNING
E-learning is delivered via our interactive portal http://school.kbatraining.org over a three month period per unit (options to extend). More details are available on www.kbatraining.org who manage this training portal.

DISTANCE LEARNING
Distance learning is delivered via hardcopy KBAT course materials and email contact with the tutor for assignments over a 12 month period (options to extend).

COMBINED LEARNING
This option combines e-learning and distance learning so candidates have access to our interactive portal and hardcopy course materials. More details are available on www.kbatraining.org who manage this training portal.

BLENDED LEARNING
This is a combination of full time with e-learning/distance options to aid the learning experience.
