Pinhole Photography Workshops
Details
No previous experience necessary. Participants are between 12 & 16 years old. Gallery of Photography will provide all equipment including pinhole cameras & darkroom supplies. Students should bring a packed lunch as we eat on the move.
This workshop is especially tailored for teenagers, and is one of the most enjoyable and creative workshops held each year in the gallery. It’s a practical hands-on course where participants learn how to build their own pinhole camera, calibrate their exposures and develop & print their own photographs in the darkroom. As well as the enjoying the magic of traditional photographic chemistry in the darkroom, participants are also introduced to digital processes including scanning, image manipulation & inkjet print output.
These workshops are themed each year. In 2013 the theme of the Pinhole Workshop was “History”. Inspired by the centenary of the 1913 Lockout and the exhibition at the Gallery of Photography “An Uncertain State”, the workshop aimed to question photography as a historical document. The sites documented by the students during that week referenced the historical images taken during the 1913 Lockout.
The Gallery of Photography is located in the heart of Temple Bar in the heart of Dublin. Gallery of Photography is located in Meeting House Square – a pedestrianised square in the heart of Temple Bar, located just off East Essex St, between Eustace St and Sycamore St.
The Gallery of Photography exhibition spaces and darkroom facilities are accessible to people in wheelchairs. The widest most accessible entry point to Meeting House Square is via the East Essex Street entry.
