Details

Last year, 135 people were killed and nearly 600,000 people were injured at work. Although it may seem too late for the actual person injured in an accident to make a report, the subsequent review or investigation can help prevent further accidents of a similar nature.

Collecting information regarding accidents in a systematic way can help identify the bigger picture and any trends developing. This can be a significant step into implementing methods to prevent further injuries.

Accident Reporting Legislation

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) requires employers, and other people in charge of work premises, to report and keep records of:

  • Work-related accidents which cause deaths
  • Work-related accidents which cause certain serious injuries (reportable injuries)
  • Diagnosed cases of certain industrial diseases; and
  • Certain 'dangerous occurrences' (incidents with the potential to cause harm)
