The course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to be an aqua instructor. Theory and practical elements are covered in an interactive and engaging way and on the course you can expect to learn:
- Cardiovascular/flexibility training and exercises in water
- Muscular strength and endurance (MSE) training and exercises in water
- Principles and benefits of water-based exercise
- Designing safe and effective aqua exercise sessions
- Using music effectively in water-based exercise sessions
Throughout you’ll be tested in a range of practical and theoretical ways. They include:
- Worksheets – including health and safety, and supporting and managing clients
- Multiple choice theory exams
- Lesson plan – demonstrate your knowledge and skills by effectively planning an aqua exercise session
- Practical assessment – use everything you’ve learned on the course to deliver a planned exercise session to your fellow students
There are no formal prerequisites for this course, but we do recommend that you already hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification. Experience of participating in water-based exercise sessions will also be incredibly useful.
If you don’t already have a fitness instructor qualification, you will need to complete the anatomy and physiology, and the principles of exercise and fitness modules, in addition to the above assessments. This incurs a cost of £100.
